Intel’s Requirements for a Slim Laptop to be Marketed as an Ultrabook

As we mentioned earlier, Intel has set a few definitive requirements to qualify a laptop as a Premium Ultrabook. Those requirements are based on design choices and System specifications. If a slim laptop has a system configuration fulfilling these requirements; it can be marketed as an Ultrabook.

• To be qualified as an Ultrabook, a laptop must have a CPU with a Haswell microarchitecture SiP with 11.5 or 15 Watt TDP or better.
• Apart from the slim laptop design, an ultrabook must have a 20 mm Thickness for 13.3 inches and smaller displays. And the thickness is 23 mm for 14.0 inches and for larger displays can go up to 29 mm.
• According to Intel’s requirements, the Ultrabook must have a long battery backup. To be qualified as an Ultrabook; A laptop must have at least 6 hours of FHD(1920 x1080 p) video playback time and in the idle mode the backup should be 9 hours.
• The Resume time from Hibernation should be less than or equal to 3 seconds.
• For Storage, They can use either an SSD or an HDD with a minimum 80 MB/s transfer rate.
• For the I/O port, the laptop must have USB 3.0 Type-A or USB Type C ports alongside one or more Thunderbolt ports.
• Any slim laptop marketed as an Ultrabook must have Firmware support for intel Management Engine 8.0 or higher.
• The laptop must support Intel Anti-Theft Technology and Intel Identity Protection Technology.
